Janice Jones

Art and crafting have always been my “happy place” and I started selling my painted rocks and crocheted items at the age of 14. Pursuing my dream job as Professor of Fine Arts seemed unrealistic for me, so I went to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh for Visual Communications with a dual major of Graphic Design and Illustration for my Associates degree and then graduated with honors from Point Park College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Visual Arts and Design.  I had a successful career as a graphic designer and illustrator in Washington D.C. before returning to Pittsburgh to continue working a few years before marrying and having my two children.

When children became a part of my life I embarked on the adventure of being a self employed artist which presented many diverse employment and volunteer opportunities including: graphic design, set and backdrop painting, sweater production, fabric banner production, teaching art classes and workshops, seamstress and instructor for a Vocational Sewing program, and partner at SteelCoast Studio  where I acted as Administrator, Photo Retoucher, Digital Tech and Photographer’s Assistant. After my studio’s closure I have continued working as a freelance artist on a variety of projects.

At Studio Forget-Me-Not I have the joy of helping enrich our client’s lives through art both by teaching traditional classes and mentoring artists in our vocational Next Level program.   Nurturing and supporting our artists’ creativity and artistic dreams is a joyful privilege and I love being able to share my wide range of visual and fiber arts experiences with my students.
